Message from Baubo - The Goddess of Laughter (Greek) - Get over yourself and Laugh!

Goddess Inspiration and Affirmations

Baubo – Goddess of Laughter (Greek)

Message as channeled by Tora Moon 9/17/10

Greetings Dear Ones!  Come and listen to the message I have for you this day:

(statue of Baubo)

Don’t take yourself so ____ seriously!  Don’t take life so seriously.  Life is a game you chose to come and play.  So play!  Laugh!  Have fun!  Enjoy your life and the games you are playing with your playmates.

You know, Dear Ones, you did decide to play whatever ‘game’ it is together, don’t you?  The situations and relationships you are experiencing are exactly how you decided to try out and play in this lifetime.  Smile at yourself for playing it so well.  Look behind them – behind the curtain of illusion – and see the ridiculousness of your worry, or stress, or anger, or any other emotion.  Laugh at it!  Laugh at yourself!

Give yourself permission to have a deep belly laugh.  You know the kind, where you laugh so hard you cry, can’t breathe, and can’t stop laughing.  And when you do, pay attention to how you feel.  Laughter clears a lot of ‘gunk’ and toxins from your system – mind, body, energy, spirit.  There is not enough laughter in the world today.  People are too wrapped up in their own trauma/drama to laugh.

So find someone to laugh with.  Or laugh by yourself.  You don’t need to have a reason to laugh.  Just start laughing.  It might feel silly at first and contrived.  Get over it.  Continue laughing.  Before you know it you will be in genuine full-belly laughter.  Just as a hug a day is good for the body and soul, so too is a laugh a day.

Laughter allows you to see things with a new perspective.  It shakes up the mind and body (literally and figuratively) breaking up the stuck energy that is keeping you down.

Don’t believe me?  Try it!

It worked on the Goddess Demeter.  One of my stories is how I found the Great Mother Demeter grieving and in the dumps about Her lost Daughter, Persephone.  The world was suffering because of Her sadness and turning-in on Herself.  She needed help, so I showed up.

There She was sitting on a boulder in the middle of a field of dying wheat.  Just sitting feeling sorry for herself, wrapped up in her grief.  ‘Enough is enough,’ I said, as I approached Her.  ‘Get over yourself and start doing your job.  The world needs you.’

She just looked up at me and sadly shook Her head, ‘I can’t,’ She told me.  ‘I keep trying, but all I can think about is my lost Daughter.  I miss Her.’

She really needed help.  Now part of my gift is being rowdy, raunchy, and even a bit obscene to get people to see the ridiculous and laugh.  So I raised my skirts showing off my fine hairy vulva and started doing a shimmy-shim dance, being as obnoxious and silly as possible, laughing all the while.  Well, no one, not even the Great Mother Demeter can resist my laughter.  Pretty soon a smile tugged at the corners of Her mouth.  Then a true smile.  The first the world had seen from Her in months.  A new shoot of grass popped up next to Her Divine foot.  The next thing She knew, She was laughing so hard Her belly hurt.  All around Us the field was covered with new shoots of growth.  A crocus popped its head up – the first the world had ever seen.

Our laughter rang throughout the land, causing others to laugh.  You know how contagious laughter is.  The laughter was like the peal of bells, repeating and echoing over and over.  It reached clear to the Underworld where Persephone had been taken and had decided to take up residence.  Hearing Her mother’s laughter made Her realize how much She missed the Upper World and Her mother.  Persephone, now Kore, cared deeply for the Soul’s She now ruled in the Underworld.   But She made the decision to return for part of the year to spend time with Her mother, Demeter.

This is the part of the story the world has forgotten.  It was the Laughter of Demeter which brought Persephone, now the adult Queen Kore, back to the world and returned the Spring and growing.

So my Dear Ones, if laughter can cure the grieving heart of the Great Mother Demeter, it can alleviate your pain and bring healing into your life.

Laugh, Dear Ones, Laugh!

Blessings to you, Dear Ones.  There is great love here for you.

Notes:  It’s interesting that the story of Baubo and Demeter is so similar to the story of Usume and Amaterasu.  Both are stories of the Goddess turning Her face from the world and bringing winter.  Both needed the help of the Goddess of Laughter to bring them out of it and return Spring to the world.
